Golden Tigers Classes

Class Attendance – Class attendance is not required: however, instructors work hard to prepare for these classes. Please let your instructor know if you cannot attend a class session.

February, 2010

Aqua Fun – (Session I) –Monday, Wednesday, Friday, February 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, & 26, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Family Aquatics Center, ACHS.  Debbi Davidson, Instructor. Participants will be led by trained personnel through a series of specially designed exercises that can help increase joint flexibility and improve mobility. There will be a $3.00 pool fee for this class.

Mah-Jongg – Monday, February 1, 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8, 22 & 29, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Webb – Brown Academic Center – Room 205. Jackie Hunsucker, Instructor. This is a game popular in the 1920’s and is becoming popular again. It is played with tiles and game card. It is similar to today’s rummy. We will use the 2009 game card.

Exercise – (Session I) – Tuesday & Thursday, February 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, & 25, 1:30 – 2:30 pm., Webb - Brown Academic Center – Room 205. Gina McKown, Instructor. Class participants will work on the joint area and flexibility. Basic stretching, kickboxing, yoga, and using vita bands will also be explored.

Reader’s Theater – Tuesday, February 2, 9, 16 & 23, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Webb-Brown – Room 203.
Sue Gregg, Instructor. The class participants will read from a script and add expressions to portray the personality of the character. Several performances will be scheduled.

Computer Skills for Today – Wednesday, February 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3 & 10, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 105. Larry Schwintz, Instructor. Learn the basic computer skills you need to survive in today’s society. You’ll discover practical applications for creating word documents and how to create and organize files.

Wii Sports Games for Seniors – Wednesday, February 3, 10, 17 & 24, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Webb – Brown Academic Center, Room 206. This class will introduce you to one of the hottest gaming crazes – Wii Sports. You will be able to Bowl, Golf, Ski and more. This session is sure to get you up out of your chair to share in the fun!!

Creating Family Recipe Books – Thursday, February 4, 11, 18 & 25, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 204. Margaret Neal – Instructor. Class participants will learn how to organize recipes and create a special cookbook for future generations. Information on how to publish a cookbook will also be discussed. $10.00 class fee.

Easy Stain Glass Wallhanging – Tuesday, February 23, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Ark City Senior Center. Sue Carpenter, Instructor. This is a fun and simple method to make an intricate stained glass wall hanging. There are lots of possibilities to create beautiful windows with your fabrics and fusible webbing. Basic sewing supplies and machine are needed for this class. Complete supply list will be available at enrollment.

Woodcarving – Tuesday, March 2, 9, 23 & 30, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Cherokee Strip Museum. Linda Kenzy,
Instructor. Class participants will work on a carving project during the spring session. A wood blank will be for sale at the class. Bring your tools and be ready for a challenging project.

Basic Health Care for Pet, Working & Sporting Dogs – Wednesday, March 3, 10, 24 & 31, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 205. Dr. Steve Swaim – Instructor. The class will cover basic health care of pet, working and sporting dogs. It will also include first aid care for dogs.

Basic Machine Embroidery – Thursday, March 11, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Ark City Senior Center. Sue Carpenter – Instructor. Do you want to learn more about using your machine embroidery machine?  If so, this class will help you understand more about threads, stabilizers, needles, placement of designs and designs available to use on your embroidery machine. This is a lecture demonstration class and no actual embroidery will be completed in the class.

Introduction to Genealogy – Monday, March 22, 29, April 5, 12, 19 & 26, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 205. Ron Upton – Instructor. If you want to learn more about your family, you can get started by taking a basic class on genealogy. The class will include pedigree charts, computer programs, places to search and more.

Beyond the Basics – Wednesday, March 24, 31 & April 7, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 105. Larry Schwintz, Instructor. In this class you will learn more about using word processing and power point for everyday projects. Labels, calendars and certificates are some of the projects you will complete in this class.

Country Line Dancing – Wednesday, March 24, 31, April 7, 14, 21 & 28, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., Ark City Sr. Center. Garold & Sue Carpenter – Instructors. This is a great class for fun and exercise. A variety of line dances will be taught including the Electric Slide and the Cotton Eyed Joe. No experience needed.

This class will feature birthday and seasonal cards that are fun and easy to make. Please bring scissors and your favorite adhesive. There will be a $10 class fee for this class.

Driver Safety – Thursday & Friday, April 8 & 9, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 208. Ed Hanna – Instructor. This is an 8-hour classroom refresher course for experienced motorists. You must attend both sessions to receive certificate. There is a $12.00 fee for the class to cover handouts.

This & That – Tuesday, April 13, 20, 27 & May 4, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center – Room 204. Margaret Neal, Instructor. Each session will have a guest speaker & cover a variety of topics.

Creating a Photo Story –Wednesday, April 14, 21 & 28, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center - Room 105. Larry Schwintz, Instructor. Bring out the best in your images! Photo Story is a free software program that you can use to create a picture story. Great for holiday, graduation, birthday, wedding and retirement pictures. Some computer experience highly recommended for this class.

Pot Luck Quilt – Thursday, April 15 & 22,
9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Ark City Senior Center, Sue Carpenter, Instructor. This is a simple quilt that you can select fabrics or just use your scraps. Fast piecing techniques are used to create the blocks. Fabrics, basic sewing supplies & sewing machine are needed. Complete supply list available at enrollment.
