Academic Progress Policy

The College recognizes the need to provide financial assistance to qualified students. Federal regulations require students receiving federal aid to make “satisfactory academic progress” in order to continue receiving federal aid. Progress of all students on federal aid will be measured at the end of each semester based on final grades and hours completed. The following procedures will be used to determine eligibility and the awarding of federal aid:

.01 A student’s eligibility for federal financial aid will be evaluated on approved need, enrollment in a degree or a certificate program, satisfactory academic progress and availability of funds.

.02 Title IV federal aid shall be awarded up to a maximum of ninety–five (95) attempted credit hours.

.03 Class attendance and academic progress will be evaluated at mid-term of each semester. At mid-term, students who are not making satisfactory progress in the classroom will be notified in writing that failure to meet satisfactory academic progress by the end of the semester will result in federal financial aid suspension.

.04 The student must complete a minimum of 67% of the hours attempted with a grade point average of 1.75 or above each semester. The following cumulative GPA requirements must also be met:

.05 The Financial Aid Office reserves the right to use Professional Judgment in monitoring cumulative GPA’s if a student has made satisfactory progress within the current semester.

.06 A complete withdrawal from courses by students receiving federal financial aid will result in federal financial aid suspension.

.07 Federal aid suspension is defined as a period of time in which the student will not be able to receive federal financial aid, until satisfactory academic progress has been met.

.08 The student’s federal financial aid eligibility will be reinstated after he/she meets satisfactory academic progress. It is the student’s responsibility to reapply for federal financial aid and to notify the financial aid office that satisfactory academic progress has been met.

.09 Students have the right to appeal federal financial aid suspension according to terms outlined in the Cowley County Community College’s Policy Handbook, #404.00.
