Federal Aid Check List

You must reapply for federal aid each new school year!

All Financial Aid files must be complete by August 1st if students intend to use their aid as payment.

	Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Ideal time to apply is February through April.
	Sign and return your Award Letter.
If Selected for Verification
	Provide a copy of Federal Tax Returns & W-2's to the Financial Aid Office.
	Provide documentation of any untaxed income to the Financial Aid Office. (i.e. social security benefits, SRS assistance, child support received or paid out, etc.)
	Provide a copy of your High School Transcript or GED to the Financial Aid Office.
	Sign and return your award letter.
If Interested in Loans
Students must be enrolled in and attending at least six (6) credit hours per semester to receive a Stafford loan. This is a federal regulation. (Summer hours are calculated the same as any other semester. You must be enrolled in 6 hours at Cowley College to be eligible for a loan.)
	Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Also available in the Financial Aid Office.
	Complete financial aid file, returning all requested documentation to the Financial Aid Office.
	Sign and return your Award Letter to the Financial Aid Office. Be sure to Accept or Decline all offered aid.
	Complete the Online Entrance Counseling. This counseling is mandatory. Failure to complete it will delay the processing of your loan.
	Complete an Online Loan Application. Be sure to complete all steps required. Be sure to either E-Sign or print and mail your Promissory Note to the lender.
	For Additional Unsubsidized Stafford Funds-Complete the request form ( #6 on the Loan Policy) and return it to the Financial Aid Office. Additional Unsubsidized Funds are available for independent students only.
