Band

If you are interested In Band, Jazz Band or Orchestra, Cowley County Community College will suit your needs. Performance classes are offered for music majors and non-music majors alike with the ultimate goal of being an enjoyable, education experience.

With our state-of-the-art rehearsal and performance facilities (The Brown Center, constructed in 1994), we invite you to get involved in music at Cowley!

Transfer Options: The Music Program at Cowley has established transfer articulation agreements with most four-year institutions in Kansas and Oklahoma. Students completing the two-year music program can finish a bachelor's degree in music without repeating courses. In most cases, the transfer student has a stronger theory background that the student completing the first two years at a four-year institution. Smaller class size allows more one-to-one contact between students and instructors.

Features: Instrumental music groups (Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Symphony Orchestra) will perform a wide variety of music for various local and state-wide functions. Tours to high schools and major festivals are planned.

Financial Assistance: Students may obtain a tuition and book scholarship by either auditioning or by director recommendation.

Several special scholarships are available: The Fostine Moncrief Scholarship, which offers several awards with stipends ranging from $100 to $500 per year, two $200 scholarships from the Arkansas City Music and Dramatics Club. These are available to music majors through competitive auditions in September, April, and May. Music majors are encouraged to apply for other types of grants or loans through government student aid programs at Cowley.

GPA Requirements: 2.5
Scholarships cover tuition and books

Requirements:

  • Enroll and participate in two instrumental performance classes.
  • Adhere to the GPA and hour requirements of contract.
  • This scholarship is valid only if the recipient is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at the ARKANSAS CITY CAMPUS. On-line courses will not count as Arkansas City Campus courses.
