Kansas State Scholarship

Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship

Vocational-Technical Scholarship
- Available to vocational-technical schools, community colleges and state universities w/vocational-technical programs
- Merit based – DAT required
- $121,000 spent serving 242 students in FY 06
- $500 maximum award

Foster Care Tuition Waiver
- Available to state regent 4 year institutions, community colleges, vocational/technical schools & colleges & Washburn University
- Students must be full-time and in good academic standing
- No state appropriations for this program
- As of July 1, 2006 schools are required to waive tuition/fees of students who meet the guidelines of the foster care program and program will be administered by SRS
- Prior to July 1, 2006, 80% of the funding of student’s tuition/fees was paid through SRS federal Chafee funding and 20% through unspent Kansas Board of Regent scholarship funds.  Recipients of the waiver prior to 7/1/06 still fall under the old guidelines and KBOR will continue to oversee.
- Total of $112,316 spent for 80 students during FY 06

Kansas Teacher service Scholarship
- Available to public, private 4 yr institutions & community colleges
- Merit based/competitive
- Upper class students given priority
- Must plan to work in hard-to-fill discipline or underserved geographic areas
- Service obligation – 1 year of service for 1 year of scholarship
- $418,815 spent serving 92 students in FY06
- $5,000 maximum award

Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship
- Available to public, private 4 yr institutions, community colleges & technical schools/colleges
- Need-based
- Students must acquire a sponsor
- Service obligation – 1 year of service for 1 year of scholarship
- $488,275 spent serving 168 students in FY 06
- $3,500 for RN/$2,500 for LPN maximum awards

National Guard Tuition Assistance
- Prior to FY03, program administered by the Adjutant General’s Office
- Available to public and private 4 yr institutions, community colleges, Vocational/technical schools & colleges & accredited independent institutions
- $919,398 available funding to assist approx. 279 students
- Service obligation – Students agrees to complete their current service obligation, plus three months service for each semester of assistance received

Workforce Development Loan Program
- Implemented in FY 06
- Available to vocational/technical schools & colleges, community colleges and vocational schools, or associate degree programs at public postsecondary educational institutions
- A loan forgiveness program – recipient agrees to live & work in Kansas in a field of work in which they were trained until the loan is forgiven.  Timeframe is ¼ of the loan amount’s principal will be forgiven for each year of living & working in Kansas
- The maximum loan amount each year is $2,000.  Students may obtain a maximum of 2 loans
- Funding source from KS Department of Labor (WIA) & KS Department of SRS (TAF)
- $53,740 spent for 27 students in FY 06

William and Gladys Krusor Scholarship
Applications deadline is April 30, 2008
A $1,000.00 annual scholarship is made in two payments of $500.00 at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters and is intended to assist students who have demonstrated a commitment to completing their college education and who, without this support, could not otherwise afford to do so. Before the scholarship is awarded, the student must show proof of enrollment in the school of his or her choice. The scholarship is for one year only, recipients may reapply. The selection committee may request a personal interview with any applicant. Recipient of the scholarship will be announced MAY 31, 2008. It is the desire of William and Gladys Krusor’s family, to provide assistance to people whom might find themselves in a difficult situation and unable to complete the education necessary to perhaps make a difference in their lives.  Applications can be picked up in the Scholarship Department from Lisa Grose or email for a copy, grosel@cowley.edu.

Minisa Chapter, IAAP – International Association of Administrative Professionals.
The IAAP is an organization of office professionals, formerly known as secretaries, whose main focus is education; therefore, they are offering this for those persons who are continuing their education but need financial aid.  Priority will be given to those applicants pursuing degrees in business administration.
The Minisa Chapter is located in Wichita, so they are interested in helping individuals in this area.  The scholarship is $750.00 for fall 2008, and will be sent to the school of their choice.  Deadline is March 15, 2008.  Applications can be picked up in the Scholarship Department from Lisa Grose or email for a copy, grosel@cowley.edu.


Colorado Conservation Tillage Association Scholarship
Applications are due December 1, 2007.
The Colorado Conservation Tillage Association will be awarding a $500 Agriculture Scholarship to a student majoring in an Agricultural Degree Program.

Kay County Council for the Opportunity Center Scholarship
Application Deadline - must be received by June 1,2008
Value of Scholarship - $500 for one year ($250 per semester)
SUMMARY of Eligibility Criteria (see the application form for complete details):
-Must be a Kay County (OK) resident and/or Kay County (OK) H S graduate
-Must be a junior, senior, or graduate student
-Majoring in special education or physical, occupational, or speech therapy or related fields
-Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester
-Must have a 3.0 GPA to qualify
-Resume outlining college honors, activities and interest
-Short narrative describing your future plan
-Three letters of recommendation
-Must submit Official College Transcript

Colorado State University:
Provost’s Transfer Scholarship $5000.00
Must be non-resident students transferring to Colorado State.  The award is $5,000 per year.  It is renewable for a second year, provided eligibility criteria are met. 

  • Apply to Colorado State as a transfer student
  • Be admitted by June 1 for fall semester
  • Have 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Be classified as a non-resident for tuition purposes at the time of admission
  • Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.

EWI is offering assistance to adults in Sedgwick, Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Reno, and Sumner Counties who are in transitional situations and are in need of financial aid to further their education in their career pursuit. Scholarships are for $1,000.00. Soroptimist International of Winfield, Kansas
Almedia Greever Continuing Education Scholarship

This is available to graduates from Winfield High School in Winfield, Kansas. The applicant is required to have completed a minimum of two semesters of college course work and carry a grade point average of at least 2.5. This is a $750 scholarship and all applications must be postmarked by March 25, 2008. Copies of the application can be picked up from Lisa Grose in scholarship office.

Estelle Hamilton Gottlob Endowed Scholarship
A pplicants should be Cowley College students that graduated from Arkansas City High School and plan to transfer to Wichita State University. Recipients must have at least a 2.75 grade point average and is renewable automatically if maintained. Awards will be made with regard to financial need. Applicants must complete an essay as part of the application process. The topic is “Describe a significant challenge, opportunity, or setback in your life and the impact it has had on you. What contribution do you hope to make as a student at Wichita State? (Your response should reflect your leadership abilities outside the classroom.) Please visit with Lisa Grose in the scholarship office to receive a cover sheet for your essay.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund -
Community College Transfer Scholarship Program

Must be transferring from a two-year college to a four-year institution
Applicants must be of Hispanic Heritage; be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; be currently enrolled part-time or full-time at a community college; have plans to transfer and enroll full-time at a four-year, U.S. accredited institution; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; and apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA.

Limited to Kay County, OK residents and/or Kay County, OK High School Graduates
Deadline: June 1, 2007
For: College junior, senior or graduate students majoring in Special Education, Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy or related fields.
Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.
Requirements and Regulations:
-Recipient of the award may choose any approved institution in which to take the necessary training. -Applications must be received by the scholarship Committee no later than June 1st.
-Applicants should have a 3.0 grade pointer average throughout college work to qualify.
-In addition to completing the application, the applicant must provide:
--An official college transcript
--A resume, which should include college honors, interests and activities
--Work experience and job history
--A short written narrative describing your future career plans and how plans relate to this application. Include your plans regarding your job choice and possibilities following completion of your studies. Also, any personal work experience you have had with people with disabilities.
--Attach three (3) letters of recommendation from a former teacher, employer, activity sponsor, or someone who has known you over a period of time, not a relative. Include address and phone number for each recommendation.

Army Emergency Relief Spouse and Children Scholarship Program
Eligible applicants must be:
-Dependent children, stepchildren or legally adopted children of Army Soldiers on active duty, retired or deceased while in active duty or retired status. The children of Grey Area Reservists/National Guard are eligible as retired members.
-Stateside applicants must be full time students.
-First undergraduate degrees only.
Completed applications deadline is March 1, 2008. The 2007-2008 Student Aid Report (SAR) must be postmarked by May 1, 2008.
The application can be printed form their website www.aerhq.org. Students may apply online with supporting documents mailed with a postmark no later than March 1, 2008.
