Cowley's EMS Education receives high praise.
The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Profession recently conducted a site visit at Cowley College’s Allied Health Center in Winfield. The committee is recommending continued full accreditation without any progress reports for Cowley’s EMS Education. read more...

Cowley receives grant to expand MICT training
Cowley College’s Allied Health Department was recently notified that it’s MICT program got a Perkins Reserve Fund Grant from the Kansas Board of Regents for $65,800 to be used to expand MICT training at Butler Community College.
The grant will allow the MICT program to purchase equipment needed at the satellite location.
“This grant affords us the opportunity to better meet the critical shortage of paramedics in Kansas,” said Slade Griffiths, Department Chair of the Allied Health Education/EMS Education Program Director. “In addition, it has allowed us to form a collaborative partnership with Butler Community College to teach at their campus in Andover. We are very thankful to the Kansas Board of Regents for this opportunity to better meet the needs of students in particular and Kansans in general.”

MICT program in Andover
With the demand for Mobile Intensive Care Technicians continuing to grow, Cowley College partnered with Butler Community College to offer an 18-month MICT class in Andover.
The first three semesters will be spent in the classroom where students meet two times a week (Monday and Wednesday, 5-10 p.m.) During the spring semester, students will complete the clinical portion of the program. Field internship will also be conducted in the spring semester and will conclude in June. The last three weeks of the class will be spent in the classroom preparing for the National Registry examination.

Cowley College and WSU team to offer degree
With the healthcare industry continuing to grow, Cowley College and Wichita State University have collaborated to offer students a chance to obtain a Health Services Management & Community Development (HSMCD) degree.
This degree was designed for students to take their first two years of college at Cowley, where they will earn an Associates of Arts degree. They will then transfer to Wichita State University to obtain a bachelor's degree. read more...

Medical Careers DayCowley hosts second annual Medical Careers Day
Getting an opportunity to learn about medical programs and degrees offered by Cowley College, 33 students took part in the school’s Medical Careers Day held Wednesday at the Allied Health Center in Winfield.
The turnout was nearly twice as large as the number of people that took part in the school’s first Medical Careers Day held last year. Those attending were made up of high school students, displaced area workers, and some Cowley College students.
The day consisted of a tour of the Allied Health Center, an overview of the Allied Health programs, and medical careers presentations provided by Butler County EMS, Butler County Paramedic Unit, Winfield Area EMS, Arkansas City Fire Department and EMS, William Newton Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Kansas, and the Pratt Nursing program. read more

Sixteen graduate from Cowley College MICT program
mict graduationGraduation for 16 students in Cowley College’s Mobile Intensive Care Technician (paramedic) program was held August 28 in the Earle N. Wright Community Room at the main campus in Arkansas City. The program that finished on July 31 completed the AAS degree requirements for the graduates. read more

Andover MICT Students Complete Program
Fifteen individuals recently completed the Cowley MICT Program, becoming the first cohort to complete the Andover program held through a partnership with Butler College.

Changes to LPN/RN Pre-requisites
Chemistry is no longer a pre-requisite for the Pratt/Cowley Nursing Program. This change was announced December 2, 2008 and affects students applying for the fall 2009 nursing program offered at Cowley’s Winfield campus and students entering the January 2009 LPN to RN online program through Pratt Community College.

Cowley and Southwestern offer new Pre-Nursing Course
The demand for nurses in the healthcare industry continues to grow at an exceptional rate. To help prepare pre-nursing students for their future profession, Southwestern College is offering a pre-nursing course for all Cowley College pre-nursing students. read more

MICT students from the Andover 18-Month class recently completed extrication training in El Dorado. The Butler County Rescue Squad provided classroom and hands-on instruction.




 

 

 

Tactical Classes for EMS and LawEnforcement

Cowley College’s Advanced Tactical EMS class was held at the Arkansas City campus on September 20, 2008 from 1800-midnight.

The fall 2009 basic class is scheduled to take place October 3 & 4. The advanced class will be October 17 & 18.
