Emergency Medical Services provides acute medical care of the
critically ill and injured on scene and during transport to a hospital
or other care facility.
Our EMS programs provide education and training to prepare our students
to become certified as a Emergency Medical Technician. At the basic level,
the Emergency Medical Technician provides stabilization, basic life support
and safe transportation of the trauma victim or the medically ill patient
to a medical facility.
Once certified as an EMT, the student can continue the program to develop
the knowledge and skills necessary to be a Paramedic, also known as a
Mobile Intensive Care Technician (MICT). A paramedic performs a wide range
of medical procedures, including more advanced procedures such as administering
drugs orally and intravenously, interpreting electrocardiograms (EKG's),
and performing endotracheal intubations; diagnosing and treating minor
