Paramedic Program Costs

Tuition only
The paramedic program is 54 credit hours in length (excluding prerequisites). Tuition and fee costs, per credit hour, depend upon your residence location. The most up-to-date and detailed information may be found at The Cowley Tuition and Costs Page.

Additional expenses

  • Required Books (may be purchased at Cowley Bookstore): $850
  • Tablet PC or Smartphone (iPad or Android tablet with WiFi recommended): Cost varies, approximately $200-$500 *NOT AVAILABLE AT THE COWLEY BOOKSTORE*
  • Laboratory Fees: $150.00 (each semester). Includes the following:
    • Paramedic lab supplies.
    • Liability Insurance. Required by the clinical and field internship sites. This provides you with malpractice insurance coverage while performing required hospital and ambulance clinicals.
    • FISDAP access. FISDAP is utilized to track student performance and competencies in the clinical and field settings.
  • Criminal Record Check: $45 one time fee. This is required prior to starting any clinical training. For more information on background checks, click here.
  • Medical Insurance: It is recommended that students carry medical insurance throughout the entire program, though it is required during clinical training. Cost will vary.
  • Computer and Internet Access: Students will need to have Internet access to enter our online class and to perform literature searches or to gain access to online journals. Students who do not have Internet access at home can use the college computers during normal lab hours. Cost will vary (or free at college)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course
    Before entering the clinical phase of the program, you will be given the opportunity to take an ACLS provider course which will provide knowledge validation and better opportunities for employment upon completion of the Paramedic program. This class costs $150.00

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider and Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers Course
Before entering the clinical phase of the program, you will be given the opportunity to take a PALS provider course which will provide knowledge validation and better opportunities for employment upon completion of the Paramedic program. This class costs $150.00

Newborn Resuscitation Provider Course (prior to 2012)
During the clinical phase of the program, you will be given the opportunity to take a NRP provider course which will provide knowledge validation and better opportunities for employment upon completion of the Paramedic program. This class costs $150.00

The Difficult Airway - EMS Course (2012 and later)
During the clinical phase of the program, you will be given the opportunity to take a Difficult Airway - EMS course which will provide knowledge validation and better opportunities for employment upon completion of the Paramedic program. This class costs $150.00

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Provider Course
During the clinical phase of the program, you will be given the opportunity to take a PHTLS provider course which will provide knowledge validation and better opportunities for employment upon completion of the Paramedic program. This class costs $150.00

Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor Course (optional)
Morbidity and mortality of cardiac disease can be reduced if rescuers and lay people have a sound knowledge and ability to perform emergency cardiac care. As such, the Paramedic students will complete an American Heart Association BCLS Instructor course so that they can help save lives by teaching others the proper emergency techniques. This also enhances employment opportunities. This class costs $150.00

  • Physical Examination: You will be required to have a physical examination during the first month of the program. This exam must include a tuberculin test, urinalysis and complete blood count (CBC). This is the time to confirm immunization status and acquire updates.
  • Uniforms for Clinical and Field Rotations: White uniform shirt (plain, no patches), navy or black trousers (no denim), black leather shoes or boots, black socks, black belt, name tag, watch and a dark colored winter jacket (if needed). Students will also need to purchase platinum gray hospital scrubs, white tennis shoes, 6 (each of two) Cowley Paramedic program patches and a stethoscope. Some EMS organizations may require students to wear their uniform shirt. Cost will vary
  • Travel and Transportation: Hospital clinical training and field internship is completed at a variety of sites, many of which are in Wichita. Because of this, students must have adequate transportation and should be aware of the costs involved in this travel. Cost will vary
  • Meals Away from Home: This will vary for each student. During the didactic phase of the program, students can bring sack lunches and eat at the college, at home (if local) or at a restaurant. During clinicals, students can take a sack lunch (generally) or at the hospitals' cafeterias (generally at a reduced, student cost). During field internship, students typically take food or, depending on the EMS organization, eat at a restaurant. Cost will vary
  • College Diploma Fee: This fee is assessed for all Cowley College graduates. MUST BE PAID DURING LAST SEMESTER OF THE PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS COMPLETING THE AAS DEGREE. $25.00
  • Kansas Board of EMS and National Registry Examination Fee: This fee covers the Kansas ($65) and National Registry ($110) examination cost. $175.00
