Long Term Care Administrator
Online Continuing Education

Cowley College has had a long and fine relationship with Long Term Care Administrators by providing education and training for initial licensure.  When listening to Administrators who are Cowley preceptors and our graduates who have become licensed Administrators, we have come to recognize the difficulty of Administrators to acquire the necessary 30 administrative category CEU hours.  We developed a plan to help the industry by providing these hours in the form of leadership classes in the online format.

Leadership is an integral component to the dynamic and evolving career in Long Term Care.  An organization with great leadership will be more effective, more cost-efficient and have better employee morale at all levels, all of which are important components of any successful organization.

To better serve the busy Administrators and offer courses that are useful and allow the participant to immediately bring new thoughts back to an organization, the delivery format of the leadership program has been enhanced to allow participants to obtain one class in eight weeks instead of the more traditional sixteen week semester.  All eleven of the following three credit hour classes are offered each year during five semesters that are eight weeks in length.

Courses offered are:

            Introduction into Leadership
            Organizational Leadership
            Leading Change
            The Leadership Challenge
            Leading without Power
            Human Relations in Organizations
            Financial Management
Educational Practice and Theory for the Leader
            Management Information Systems
            Leadership Mentoring
            Strategic Leadership

We developed this program with the working adult in mind.  Eight week courses are intense though made fun and interactive with other students.  The teaching methodology will be different than the traditional baccalaureate education we all completed.  These leadership classes will be taught in a style typically reserved for graduate education that emphasizes more of the theories and less on rote memorization.  Students should expect to complete assigned readings, discuss topics via threaded discussion boards, complete several short quizzes and complete a final examination that ties the entire curriculum into a project or paper that can be immediately utilized in the long term care facility.  We do not want to waste your time – we will provide meaningful information that has direct applicability for the Administrators and their facilities.

Admission to the college and enrollment has been streamlined to better meet your needs.  To enroll, you should complete the following steps:

  • Complete the online Application for Admission at www.cowley.edu/admissions/apps.html.
  • Call Terri Hutchison at 620.441.5583 so that your records can be updated for enrollment.  Mrs. Hutchinson will update your file and transfer you to an admissions representative.
  • When speaking to the admissions representative, you can have him or her enroll you in the class you wish to take or be released for online enrollment via Campus Connect at www.cowley.edu – the choice is yours to make.
  • Payment can be made via credit cards, so your call will be transferred to Accounts Receivable to assist in that process.
  • The textbook is available at the college bookstore (620.441.5277) and can be shipped to your location as needed.

Tuition costs are $70 per credit hour and each class provides 45 hours of administration continuing education hours.
