Criminal Justice Program

Criminal Justice Programs

The Criminal Justice program at Cowley College prepares students for a successful career in law enforcement and corrections. There is a nationwide trend toward requiring that all criminal justice professionals have at least a two-year degree, and Cowley College Associate Degree in Criminal Justice fulfills that promise. This is an ideal time to become a professional in the field of criminal justice. In response to the rise in crime rates, increasing drug abuse, and a growing population, the public demands a strong response to the violence and disorder, causing employment opportunities to increase dramatically in recent years. Career opportunities exist in many areas: local police departments and organizations, county and state police departments, corrections, environmental protection services, juvenile facilities, crime laboratories, courts and judicial offices, and community-based corrections (probation and parole).

Students that have declared a major in Criminal Justice and meet qualification guidelines are eligible to be a Student Patrol Officer. Students participating in the Student Patrol program are doing so both as a requirement and out of a desire to help the community by learning about their chosen profession. The primary focus of Student Patrol is education through experience. To learn more about the Student Patrol program click here.
