WebCT Tutorial

What is WebCT?

WebCT is a Web based set of Course Tools designed to deliver online learning. It was originally developed by the University of British Columbia and is presently being used by universities and colleges all over the world. Cowley College is supporting WebCT as the delivery platform for its online courses.

Some of the WebCT tools used to support online learning include :

  • homepages
  • discussions
  • e-mail
  • chat
  • glossary
  • calendar
  • quiz

WebCT provides the tools to present online learning in a variety of ways. This can range from structured learning pathways to dynamic, interactive virtual classrooms. How a course is presented online depends on the content and complexity of the learning material, and the delivery methodology used by the instructor.

With each module studied, WebCT will become a more familiar and welcoming learning environment. Eventually, WebCT will simply become another tool used to support learning.

As with any classroom, it is a changing environment - expect each module to apply different tools and techniques. Join in, ask questions, and participate as you would in any classroom.
