How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests?

Accessing the Quiz

To take a quiz or a test, click the Quiz tool hyperlink on your Homepage, Organizer page, or Navigation Bar.

The Quizzes and Surveys screen appears. How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests?

Title: This is the title of the quiz or test. Note: if a quiz is not available, or has already been taken the maximum number of times, the title will not be hyperlinked.

Availability: This is the time period in which the quiz may be accessed.

Duration: You have this amount of time to complete the quiz or survey. If there is no information displayed in this column, then you have unlimited time.

Grade: This is the grade you received for the quiz or survey. For example, 90/100 indicates that you received 90 out of 100 points. How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests?

Attempts: This column displays the number of times you have attempted the quiz or test, and the number of attempts remaining. Once an attempt has been marked and its grade released, the hyperlinked Completed appears.

Under Title, click the hyperlinked name of the quiz or test that you want to take.

All the questions for this quiz will be presented to you at one time.
The questions may be answered in any order.

How do I begin the quiz?

To begin the quiz, click Begin quiz at the bottom of the instructions.

The quiz screen appears in a new browser window.

Note: Please allow the quiz to load completely before attempting to do anything else.

When You Are In the Quiz, What Do You See?

1. Quiz summary information

The title of the quiz
Your name
Your start time
The time allowed
The number of questions

2. The quiz questions, and a place for you to answer

3. Your progress

The time remaining for you to complete the quiz.
The questions you have not answered (yellow dot)
The questions you have answered and saved (blue check mark)
The answered questions you have edited but not saved (red exclamation mark)

To save your answer to a question, click Save answer. Note: this will ensure that any work you How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests? have done is not lost, in the event of any technical problems (see Troubleshooting below). This also allows you to revisit questions and make changes, if your instructor has allowed this in the quiz.

Submitting the quiz for grading

To submit the quiz for grading, click Finish.

A confirmation message appears asking if you have answered all questions and have saved those answers. If you have not saved all your answers or have not answered all questions, it will indicate this. To go back and answer or save answers, click on Cancel. Otherwise, click OK. This is the final confirmation message to submit the quiz for grading. Once you How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests? have clicked OK, you cannot go back and save or answer questions. If you are finished with the test, click OK. Note: you must click OK for your quiz to be submitted for grading.

Viewing quiz results

To view the results of your quiz, click the Quiz tool hyperlink on your Homepage, Organizer page, or Navigation Bar.

The Quizzes and Surveys screen appears.

Under Attempts, click the Completed hyperlink for the quiz that you want to view.

The Scores screen appears.

Note: to return to the Quizzes and Surveys screen, under Scores, click the Quiz hyperlink.

Under Number, click the hyperlink of the quiz attempt for which you want to see the results.

The results screen appears. Note: the information that is available to you depends upon how your How Do I Take Quizzes and Tests? instructor has set up the quiz results. For example, your instructor may choose to show you the correct answer as well as your own answer.

To return to the Scores screen, click the Scores hyperlink.

Troubleshooting

Browser configuration

JavaScript errors

If you encounter a JavaScript error when you try to begin a quiz, close down the browser completely, and restart it.

Browser/computer crashes

If you experience a browser or computer crash during a quiz, when you begin the quiz again, the answers that you previously saved will be there. Note: any time that your computer or browser is unavailable during a quiz will be considered to be part of your total completion time for the quiz.
