Student Login Guide

1) Logging into WebCT
You can get to the WebCT login page by typing in the url http://www.cowley.edu/distance/serverstatus/welcome.htm

or...
from any page on the www.cowley.edu web site, click on the eLearning Students global link in the top banner.

The Cowley Online Classes homepage will appear. If the computer screen is GREEN,
the message will say,
"Welcome. Click Here to Go Online and
Log In".

Clicking on the green screen will take you
to the WebCT Log In page.

If the server is not available, you will see
a pale RED screen; the message will say,
"Welcome. Please Wait...Currently
Unavailable ".

2) Logging on / Logging off

Logging on:
When you click on the GREEN Screen, you will go to the Login to WebCT page.

Enter your WebCT ID (last name, first initial and LAST SIX DIGITS of your Cowley ID).

Enter your Password.

Example: If your name is Richard Smith and your Cowley ID were 999123456 then your WebCT ID & Password would be as follows:
WebCT ID: SmithR123456
Password: SmithR123456

When you log on to your account for the first time, click “Password settings” in the menu above your listed courses, and change your password to something that you won't forget. Keep it confidential.

Here is where you give yourself a password hint in case you forgot your password. A new one will be emailed to the email address your provide. Remember if you change your email address you will need to update your email address here as well.

Logging Off

You must click on the Log Out link located in the upper right hand corner of your course.

IMPORTANT! If you do not LOGOUT of your course, the next person who uses that computer will have full access to your WebCT account.

3) Changing Password

Type in your old password. Type in your new password. Type in your new password again. Click Update Password. Click Continue.

Type in your username and new password and then click “OK”.

4) Features of Your Account

The following features are located on the "My WebCT page":

Bookmarks – If you've got a web site that you enjoy going to, you can create a link or bookmark to it on your WebCT account. There are two bookmark categories: Institutional, which is created by Cowley and cannot be edited; and Personal, which is created by you and can be edited. To manage your bookmarks, click “Manage Bookmarks” at the bottom of the page.
Announcements – Check this area for periodic announcements on Distance Learning other Cowley events.

5) Viewing WebCT

Recommended Web Browsers for Cowley's current version of WebCT 4.1 CE

WebCT supports only full-featured browsers. Some internet service providers (e.g. America Online or "AOL") provides their customers with "customized" versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape. Because of the way that these browsers use JavaScript, they are not compatible with WebCT. WebCT is only compatible with full-featured browsers. We recommend and support the following:

WebCT 4.1 CE

Microsoft Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) (PC)
Internet Explorer 5.0 (Mac OS 9.x)
Internet Explorer 5.1 (Mac OS 10.1)
Mozilla 1.5 (Mac & PC)
AOL 7.0 (PC & Mac) — AOL 7.0 does not work with WebCT's Chat and Whiteboard.
AOL 8.0 & 9.0 ---- The pop-up ad blocker must be disabled to use WebCT.

Netscape Navigator:
Netscape 6.2.3 (PC & Mac)
Netscape 7.0 & 7.1 -- The pop-up ad blocker must be disabled to use WebCT.

AOL 7.0 (PC & Mac) — AOL 7.0 does not work with WebCT's Chat and Whiteboard.
AOL 8.0 & 9.0 ----The pop-up ad blocker must be disabled to use WebCT.

NOTE: Do NOT use Smart Download. It is not compatible with WebCT.
