Cowley coaches and staff members took to the streets
for the school’s annual Blitz Drive Aug. 24 and raised more than
$30,000 for Tiger Booster Club scholarships. The Blitz Drive also succeeded
in gaining several new Tiger Booster Club members. “The people
in Cowley County continue to make each Blitz Drive a success,” Tom
Saia, Cowley athletic director, said. “Each year we surpass the
goal we set. I think that is a tribute to our coaches’ success
in the their programs.
The money we raise helps us to bring in some of the top athletes in the country.
I can’t say thank you enough to the people in Cowley County.” The
Tiger Booster Club has six levels of membership that range from $75 to $2,500.
TBC members are admitted free to all Tiger sporting events. Anyone interested
in becoming a Tiger Booster Club member can contact the Cowley athletic department
at 441-5246.
TBC golf tourney a success
With 31 teams taking part in the 10th annual Tiger Booster Club Skins Golf Tournament
Aug. 14 at the Arkansas City Country Club, the event was once again a huge success.
Tom Saia, athletic director, was pleased with the amount of money that was raised
for Tiger Booster Club scholarships. “We appreciate everybody that participated
in the tournament, it just keeps getting better and better every year,” Saia
said. “It’s a great way to kick off the year for athletics.” The
four-man team of Todd Randall, Lance Lusk, Larry Rohr and Wayne Ramsey was the
low net team at the tournament with an 18-under par 54. The team of Mark Phillips,
Jeremy Mull, Ryan Baker and Jay Wickhof took home low gross honors with a 19-under
53.
After the tournament, a Nike golf bag donated by Sid Regnier and a trip to Pagosa
Springs, Colo., donated by Bryce Roderick were auctioned off. Sheree Utash was
awarded the golf bag with a top bid of $145, and Steve and Carol Hearne had the
high bid of $400 for the week stay in Pagosa Springs. Rubbermaid and Great Western
Dining donated prizes for the on-course contests.
