Joyce N. Clark was Queen Alalah XXIII in 1954.
She lives in Summerfield, N.C. She described her Arkalalah experience
as “the epitome of everything since I grew up here.” Her
fondest memory of Arkalalah was while at Arkansas City High School. “We
marched in the parades. They were beautiful at that time.”
Clark said her fondest memory of the college included Galle-Johnson Hall. “A
friend of mine and I came over to Galle-Johnson Hall and we’d paint the
windows at Christmas. It was nice to be out of the basement.” Clark singled
out English instructor Dan Kahler as one of her favorites. “He made English
more than English. I also took a speech course under Dan.” Clark studied
education and business while at ACJC because “I didn’t know what
I wanted to do.” For the past 10 years, Clark has worked at the Center
for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, N.C. It is one of the top educational
Fortune 500 leaders. For a time, she managed a Sears catalog store. Clark has
three children, son Clayton and daughters Lauren and Carlon.
