Amanda Hadicke of Arkansas City and Kassey VanGieson
of Norwich will represent the college on the 2005 Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas
Academic Team. The team, comprised of students from all 19 Kansas community
colleges, will be honored at a banquet in Topeka in February. Hadicke,
20, is a sophomore majoring in biology. VanGieson, 20, is a sophomore
majoring in pre-veterinary medicine.
Students are chosen after meeting specific criteria, including the degree of
academic classes taken, campus involvement, a 4.0 grade-point average, and writing
several essays. A recommendation from a faculty member also was to be considered
for this honor.
One of the benefits of membership in PTK, the national honor society for two-year
colleges, is scholarship money. Traditionally, Kansas Board of Regents universities
and Washburn have awarded scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to All-Kansas
Team recipients who transfer to their institutions.
