The men’s cross country team had its reign
at the top of the Jayhawk Conference come to an end as the Tigers finished
second to Johnson County at the conference/Region VI Championships.
Despite the efforts of Tim Marshall, who finished as the individual
conference champion, earning first-team All-Region VI honors by placing
third in the region with a time of 26 minutes, 47 seconds for the five-mile
race, the Tigers finished 24 points behind Johnson County in the conference
and placed fourth in the region. However, being led by Marshall’s
eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships, the Cowley
men placed 12th out of 22 teams. Marshall earned Second-Team All-American
honors for his performance. The sophomore from Jackson, Mich., ran
the five miles in 25:23.
The Lady Tigers had four of their six runners run personal best times at the
conference meet. However, even with those performances, Cowley managed no better
than a third-place finish in the conference and a seventh-place finish in the
region. The Cowley women did not compete as a team at nationals, but Lady Tiger
freshmen Leslie Priskey and Katie Wagner competed as individuals. Priskey finished
100th out of 184 runners with a time of 21:39 in the 3.1-mile race, while Wagner
placed 102nd with a time of 21:47.
The indoor track and field season awaits the cross country runners.
