Garvey International, Inc. has changed its name
to White International, Inc., accurately reflecting the current ownership.
Bob M. White, a 1969 Cowley graduate and the recipient of the 2002
Outstanding Tiger Alumni Award, has served as president and a member
of the Garvey Board since 1982. He acquired the organization in 1997.
This name change also aligns the parent company with two subsidiaries formed
since White’s acquisition, White Material Handling, Inc. and White Premium
Organics, Inc. White International is a diversified company whose businesses
include Garvey Processing, an animal feed production and by-product company marketing
to both domestic and export customers; White material handling, a bulk material
handling company; Garvey Marine, a marine and fleeting services company; and
White Premium Organics, a horticultural products company. White Material Handling
has two locations, Ottawa, Ill., and Waterloo, Iowa. Ottawa’s facility,
Illinois River Terminal, is located on the Illinois River. The facility has full
access to multiple transportation modes, including river, rail and interstate
traffic. Midwest Bulk Services, located in Waterloo, has track to hold 100 rail
cars. It has bulk storage capabilities along with a direct transfer system with
two unloading locations. “Both of our facilities can be tailored to the
needs of the customer,” White said.
White Premium Organics, also located in Ottawa, is an industry leader in the
landscape supply industry, providing premium bulked and bagged hardwood bark
mulch, pine bark mulch, red cedar mulch, cypress mulch and soil amendments to
landscapers and retail locations. It also produces premium nursery and greenhouse
growing media and soil additives. Due to the value of the reputation Garvey Processing,
Inc. and Garvey Marine, Inc. have earned over the years, their name will not
change as these companies have achieved status within their industries. White’s
venture has turned into a family affair as he brought his children, Chris White,
special projects analyst, and Julie Holdsworth White, president of White Premium
Organics, Inc., on board. Bob and his wife Pat, the daughter of Joe and Donna
Avery (current member of Cowley’s Board of Trustees) of Arkansas City,
live in St. Charles, Ill. He began his career with Garvey in 1969. White is a
certified public accountant and holds a master’s in business administration
from Wichita State University. He also serves as treasurer of Delnor Community
Hospital in Geneva, Ill.
