After going 30-2 last season, the Cowley College
women’s basketball team has picked up where it left off as they
have raced out of the gates with a perfect 4-0 record. The Lady Tigers
are coming off an impressive 63-60 win over No. 8-ranked Barton County
Community College on Nov. 15. It was Barton County that ended Cowley’s
season a year ago as they defeated the Lady Tigers 59-50 in the second
round of the Region VI Tournament. Cowley is led in scoring by 5-10
freshman Radoslava Bachvarova from Varna, Bulgaria. Bachvarova is averaging
17.5 points per game. Megan Schoenfeld, the team’s lone returning
starter from a year ago, scored 25 points in the win over Barton County,
and is averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
Having lost its first three games of the season, the Cowley College men’s
basketball team gave Brian Jackson his first win as coach of the Tigers with
an 87-29 victory over St. Gregory’s University JV on Nov. 12. Two of Cowley’s
first three losses were by five points or less. Sophomore Julio Anthony leads
the Tigers with an average of 16.3 points per game, while fellow sophomore Marcus
Watts is averaging 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds. Freshmen Josh Cummings and Santwon
Latunde have also been impressive and are averaging 10.0 points and 8.8 points,
respectively. The Tiger men and women will open conference play on Jan. 4.
