Wanting to help students who would not be eligible for other scholarships, Larry
and Carlla Pike, owners of L.G. Pike Construction Company Inc., recently gave
$50,000 to be used for scholarships at Cowley College.
The majority of the money will be used for Endowed Scholarships, while $10,000
worth of scholarships will begin being awarded. The scholarships will be awarded
based on financial need and are for students that do not qualify for other scholarships.
“Hopefully, this will encourage kids who want to go to college but don’t
have the money,” Carlla Pike said.
Larry and Carlla Pike have owned L.G. Pike Construction Company Inc. for the
past 40 years. The Pike’s have a son, a daughter, and grandchildren that
have attended Cowley.
Terri Morrow, Cowley College Dean of Development and College Relations, is delighted
to have this scholarship with very few restrictions placed on it.
“We have students that enroll with low GPA’s or perhaps can only
take classes part time so they do not qualify for other scholarships,” Morrow
said. “This financial help will give them an opportunity to proceed with
their educational goals. We are very grateful to the Pikes for establishing this
wonderful scholarship.”
