John Bul Dau provides harrowing story of
survival
Speaking
to a crowd of roughly 300 people Feb. 18 at Cowley College's Robert Brown
Theatre, John Bul Dau shared his dramatic story of perseverance against
all odds.
In 1987, when Dau was a young teenager, his village was raided during the Second
Sudanese Civil War. He became separated from his parents and embarked on a 1,000-mile
walk, barefoot, to Ethiopia, back to Sudan, then to a refugee camp in Kenya,
where he lived with thousands of other Lost Boys.
In 2001 he was chosen to immigrate to the United States, where the film "God
Grew Tired of Us" related his and the other boys' tragic ordeal to audiences
across the United States.
He has gone on to reunite with his family and has made a new life for himself
while never forgetting the other Lost Boys he left behind.
A book signing was held in the Earle N. Wright Community Room following Bul Dau's
presentation, where he signed copies of his memoir "God Grew Tired of Us".
