Jeff Fluty named Cowley’s head athletic trainer
After spending the past two years as the head athletic trainer at Southwestern
College in Winfield, Jeff Fluty is heading down the road to become the
head athletic trainer at Cowley College.
Fluty replaces Tatum Carroll, who spent the past
two years as Cowley’s
head athletic trainer.
Fluty earned a degree from Southwestern College in health and physical
education with an emphasis in athletic training in 2002. After graduating
from Southwestern, he spent a year as an athletic trainer at Southwest
Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., where he worked with the
baseball and football teams.
However, he returned to Southwestern in August 2003
to be the school’s
head athletic trainer, and held the position until just recently.
Fluty enjoyed his time at Southwestern, but is looking forward to beginning
his new job at Cowley.
“I like the direction the school is going,” Fluty said. “They
seem to be interested in bettering the athletic training program here.
I look forward to developing a relationship with the coaches and the
athletes. Hopefully, I can bring some students in that are interested
in athletic training and help show them what athletic training is all
about.”
Fluty, who describes himself as an avid sports fan, has a passion for
his profession.
“If you like sports and you like medicine, athletic training is
the perfect mix for that,” Fluty said. “I can still be involved
with sports, and can apply medicine to it.”
Fluty has two children, Michael 10, and Lauren, 9.
