Cowley golf program discontinued
Wanting to put money back into instruction, Cowley
College has decided to discontinue its men’s golf program, effective
immediately.
The move’s are part of the college’s
reorganization efforts.
Following a 25-year hiatus, the Tiger golf program was resurrected in
the 1996-97 season. Under the guidance of former coach Rex Soule, Cowley
was Region VI/District III champions in both the 1999-2000 and 2001-02
seasons.
However, the Tigers have fallen on hard times recently,
as they have finished seventh in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College
Conference each of the past three years. Nathan Pryor, the team’s
coach the past two seasons, also will no longer serve as an assistant
coach for the volleyball team.
The golf program started in 1937 and ran until 1972. The program captured
conference championships in 1939, 1955, 1956, 1959, and 1963.
There also has been a change in Cowley’s tennis program. Larry
Grose, coach of the men’s team, also will take over as coach of
the women’s team.
