Cowley’s Ely Ray does well at Skills USA State
Competition

Taking part in the Skills USA State Competition held
April 20 at the Wichita Area Technical College-Grove Campus, Cowley
College’s Ely
Ray placed third in the precision machining contest.
The contest was an all day event, which featured performance work in
the shop on machines, mills and lathes. Contestants also had to take
a written test that had to do with the machining industry. There was
also a blue print test, safety test, and inspection category.
“I am really proud of him,” Cowley College Industrial Technology
instructor/Skills USA Industrial Technology Division Advisor Brett Butler
said. “It was a long, all day affair, and he had to take all of
our curriculum and apply it.”
Also representing Cowley at the competition was Ray’s
cousin, Andrew, and Dustin Klug.
The event also served as an opportunity for the competitors to mingle
with individual representatives in the respective fields of work.
