Cowley’s Gates wins gold medal at Skills USA competition

Cowley College freshman Tanya Gates (pictured seated on the right) recently won a gold medal in Artificial Nail Application and Nail Art at the Skills USA competition held in Overland Park.

On the model’s right hand, Gates had to sculpt with tips, no forms, using the two-tone/French manicure technique.

On the model’s left hand, she had to apply nail tips, and also blend and apply an over lay wrap system. She also had to do a nail art application, and carry out a specific theme on all five fingers.

Gates was also judged on polishing all 10 nails.

“I am very proud of her,” Cowley College lead cosmetology instructor Pat Mauzey said. “Tanya is all about nails, that is what she wants to do after school.”
