Pinocchio draws 1,600 area children to Cowley campus

Pinocchio, sponsored by Cowley College’s Act One Drama Club and the Tyger Tawk Communications Club, drew 1,600 area children to the showing of the play held Tuesday at the Robert Brown Theatre.

Children from Arkansas City, Dexter, Cedar Vale, Trinity Lutheran (Winfield), Newkirk (Okla.), and Sacred Heart were entertained with two morning shows, and one afternoon showing of the play. The play also sold out its 7 p.m. performance that was open to the public.

Tom Mason, Director of the Children’s Theatre, thought the play was a tremendous success.

“The children seemed to really love it and the actors and actresses really enjoyed their parts which was easily seen on the stage,” Mason said. “It was great to have so many children from not only the Ark City community, but to also be able to include the children from numerous surrounding communities as well. I am really pleased with how well the actors and actresses performed given such a limited time to put the show together.”
