Cochran named December Student of the Month
The accomplishments keep rolling in for Cowley College sophomore Ashley
Cochran as the recently crowned Queen Alalah LXXVI was named the college’s
December Student of the Month.
Cochran, daughter of Stan and Melissa Cochran, is a pre-dentistry major
from Arkansas City that has a 4.0 grade point average. She has one brother,
Derek 24. Grandparents are, Ronnie and Patsy Sweely of Ark City, and
Bobbie and the late Mickey Cochran of Dallas, Texas.
Cochran is actively involved as a Co-Captain of the Tigerette Danceline,
is a member of Campus Christian Fellowship and Phi Theta Kappa, and serves
as a tutor for the college. She was named the first recipient of the
Shanks Family/Jodi Sanderholm Scholarship.
The scholarship Cochran was awarded totaled $1,200 for the 2007-08 school
year. The scholarship committee at Cowley College made the final selection
of Cochran as the recipient of the award.
Cochran was an Outstanding Student nominee and a Kansas Honors Scholar
at Arkansas City High School. Being named the December Student of the
Month at Cowley means a lot to Cochran.
“There are a lot of students here, so to be named Student of the Month
is an honor,” Cochran said.
She credits her teachers and parents for her academic success.
“I don’t want to be a failure, so I try as hard as I can so I don’t
fail,” Cochran said.
She recently applied to get into dental school and hopes to one day become
a dental hygienist.
“I like the dentist a lot and thought it would be neat to go into the
dental hygiene field,” Cochran said.
Away from Cowley, she works as a teller at Union State Bank. In her free
time, she enjoys playing golf, dancing, and watching Grey’s Anatomy.
Cochran has enjoyed her time at Cowley.
“It has been a lot of fun,” Cochran said. “There have been
some crazy times, but I’m really glad I came to Cowley.”
