Lee Lyons named winner of second annual Comedy Night
Creative Claws sponsored its second annual Comedy Night to discover
the funniest student on campus.
The winner for the evening was Lee Lyons.
“The night was great fun. The students performed original works, and
the audience was in for a night of laughter,” says Marlys Cervantes,
club sponsor. “Performing what you’ve written yourself is different
than acting. It takes courage to put yourself out there in that way, and we’re
so proud of the students and talent here at Cowley.”
Judges for the evening were Sean Anderson, disc jockey with KLOR, Piper
Leigh-Bowling, singer-songwriter, and Jamison Rhoads, Director of Technical
Theater at Cowley College.
“The judges were wonderful,” says host for the evening, Joanna
Carson, Creative Claws president. “It was fun to have Sean Anderson,
a comedian himself, perform for the students at the end of the evening.”
Anderson, from Ponca City, has performed at comedy clubs and colleges
across the nation.
Winners for the evening were Lee Lyons, first place; Jake Fletcher, second
place; Mitch Hoover, third place; and Wayne Farley, fourth place for
both a solo and sketch act performed with Alex Prilliman. All winners
received gifts, and first and second place also took home cash awards.
Carson invited the audience to the Creative Writing Portfolio Reception
which will be held in the Wright Room in the Brown Center from 5-7:30
p.m. on Thursday, May 7. It will be immediately followed by the Temporal
Mechanics Union concert, where Michelle Sommerhauser, winner of TMU’s
poetry contest will perform her winning poem to one of TMU’s selections
for the evening concert.
