Cowley awards scholarships
The Student Services Department at Cowley College has awarded scholarships
to the following students for the 2009-10 academic year.
From Arkansas City High School:
Bethany McClure, daughter of Mike and
Kerri McClure, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At ACHS,
she participated in choir, yearbook, cross country, track and field,
Work Ethics, FCA, SADD, AC Players, and the National Honor Society. She
plans to major in cosmetology.
Daniel Byers, son of Todd and Connie Byers, is the recipient of Instrumental
Music Scholarship. At ACHS, he was involved in FFA, tennis, band, jazz
band, Work Ethics, FCA Praise and Worship band, and the National Honor
Society. He plans to major in music education.
Jessica Coldwell, daughter of Mark and Julie Coldwell, is the recipient
of a Vocal Scholarship. At ACHS, she was president of the choir, a member
of symphonic choir, and was involved in Ark High Singers, ACHS orchestra,
jazz band, plays, musicals, and was the vice president of the Drama club.
She plans to major in music education or music theatre.
John Kuffler, son of Mike and Theresa Kuffler, is the recipient of a
Social Science Department Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in soccer,
FFA, Student Council, FCA, orchestra, Scholar’s Bowl, Work Ethics
Leadership Team, SAGE, Small String Ensemble, and the National Honor
Society. He plans to major in social science.
Maribel Ramirez, daughter of Marisela Ramirez, is the recipient of a
Art Scholarship. At ACHS, she participated in Forensics. She plans to
major in fine arts.
Tempestt Gunter, daughter of Charles and Leslyn Thompson, is the recipient
of a Dean’s Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in SADD and
the Multi Culture Student Union. She is undecided on a major.
Corbett Dalton, son of John and Diana Dalton, is the recipient of a Vocal
Music Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in symphonic choir, Ark Highs,
Men’s Ensemble, band, AC Players, and several school productions.
He plans to major in music education.
Erica Tackett, daughter of Chris and Robin Tackett, is the recipient
of a ACT Scholarship. At ACHS, she was involved in Work Ethics, FBLA,
KAYS, and the National Honor Society. She plans to major in pre-pharmacy.
Hilary Schafer, daughter of Garry and Anne Schafer, is the recipient
of a Art Scholarship. She participated in the ACHS Art Show in 2008 and
2009. She is undecided on a major.
Kyle Swanson, son of Jeff and Darla Swanson, is the recipient of a Presidential
Scholarship. At ACHS, he participated in golf and football. He is undecided
on a major.
Alex Cervantes, son of Aurelio and Elena Cervantes, is the recipient
of a Dean’s Scholarship. He is undecided on a major.
From Ark City Christian Academy:
Jeremiah Bierle, son of Jim and JoAnn
Bierle, is the recipient of a Academic Civic Engagement through Service
Award. At ACCA, he was involved in drama, choir, basketball, and was
the yearbook editor. He plans to major in religion.
From Winfield High School:
Samantha Dembeck, daughter of Scott and Trish
Dembeck, is the recipient of a Instrumental Music Scholarship. At WHS,
she participated in the marching band, concert band, symphonic band,
Key Club, FCCLA, and was a Link Crew leader. She is undecided on a major.
Anne Sanchez, daughter of Milton and Renee Sanchez, is the recipient
of a Journalism Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in the school newspaper,
Key Club, orchestra, Flag Team, drama, an the Ethics Program. She plans
to major in either communications, journalism, or computers.
Benjamin Donals, son of Jerry Donals and Kathleen Kirkbride, is the recipient
of a ACT Scholarship. At WHS, he participated in tennis, and was the
sports editor for the Oracle newspaper. He plans to major in journalism.
Ashley Andes, daughter of Kenny and Renee Andes, is the recipient of
a AEC Scholarship. At WHS, she participated in volleyball, concert band,
symphonic band, Key Club, and FFA. She plans to major in accounting.
Brooke Cullum, daughter of Jonathan and Tammy Cullum, is the recipient
of a Theatre Scholarship. At WHS, she participated in choir, theatre,
tennis, student council, and the spirit squad. She is undecided on a
major.
Aaron Palsmeier, son of Richard and Connie Palsmeier, is the recipient
of a Art Scholarship. At WHS< he was co-president of the National
Art Honors Society. He plans to major in art.
Sarah Kernell, daughter of Dale and Joelle Kernell, is the recipient
of a Natural Science Scholarship. At WHS, she participated in volleyball,
tennis, basketball, softball, FCA, Health Occupational Students of America,
spirit squad, and the W-Club. She plans to major in health.
Trevor Black, son of Debi Piatt, is the recipient of a journalism scholarship.
At WHS, he was involved in Key Club, the Oracle newspaper, and the National
Honors Society. He plans to major in pre-medicine.
Dennis Miller, son of Russ and Pennie Miller, is the recipient of a Art
Scholarship. At WHS, he was involved in track, BPA, the National Art
Honors Society, Disc Golf Club, and was the treasurer of the spirit squad.
He plans to major in graphic design/web design.
Kesha Falletti, daughter of David and Kerri Falletti, is the recipient
of a Instrumental Music Scholarship. At WHS, she was involved in concert
band, symphonic band, marching band, band, Business Professionals of
America, and the student council. She plans to major in accounting.
From Cedar Vale High School:
Travis Jarboe, son of Glenn Heath and Josie
Jarboe, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Cedar Vale,
he participated in football, basketball, baseball, the National Honors
Society, and was the Community Service class president. He plans to earn
an Associates of Applied Science degree.
Jacob Fulsom, son of Paul Jay and Elaine Fulsom, is the recipient of
a Dean’s Scholarship. At Cedar Vale, he participated in track,
basketball, FCA, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and student council. He
is undecided on a major.
Andres Myers, son of William and Xochilt Yolanda Myers, is the recipient
of a Natural Science Department Scholarship. At Cedar Vale, he participated
in football and basketball. He plans to major in mathematics.
From Udall High School:
Ashley Arseneault, daughter of Alan and Tammy
Arseneault, is the recipient of a ACT Scholarship. At Udall, she was
involved in cheerleading, Scholar’s Bowl, FCCLA, Sadd, and the
National Honors Society. She plans to major in pre-chiropractic.
Chassey Hann, daughter of Melody Klingenberg, is the recipient of a Presidential
Scholarship. At Udall, she participated in volleyball, track, FCCLA,
cheerleading, Flags, SADD, FFA, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, student
council, and the National Honors Society. She plans to major in nursing.
From Dexter High School:
Aaron Pudden, son of Bret Pudden, is the recipient
of a Theatre Scholarship. At Dexter, he was involved in football, basketball,
baseball, and FCCLA. He plans to major in welding.
Myranda Mason, daughter of Robert Mason and Monica and Corbin Thompson,
is the recipient of a Creative Writing Scholarship. At Dexter, she was
involved in FCA and FCCLA. She plans to major in elementary education.
Eric Pappan, son of Joel and Hilary Pappan, is the recipient of a Academic
Civic Engagement through Service Scholarship. At Dexter, he was involved
in football, basketball, track, Math Team, and was the student council
president. He is undecided on a major.
Taressa McClure, daughter of Kevin and Julie McClure, is the recipient
of a Danceline Scholarship. At Dexter, she participated in volleyball,
basketball, track, dance, FCA, and student council. She plans to major
in nursing.
From Douglass High School:
Ashley Campbell, daughter of Chris and Cathi
Zalusky, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. At Douglass,
she participated in cheerleading, Madrigals, concert choir, FCCLA, AAT,
FCCLA, and student council. She plans to major in communications.
From Sedan High School:
Martha Stettler, daughter of Charley and Kathryn
Stettler, is the recipient of a Social Science Department Scholarship.
At Sedan, she was involved in FCCLA, FCA, PALS, select choir, Letterman’s
Club, Skills USA, basketball (manager), and was the student council president.
She plans to major in psychology.
From Oxford High School:
Phillip Zimmerman, son of Tim and Catherine
Zimmerman, is the recipient of a TNT Scholarship. At Oxford, he was president
of the 2009 senior class, salutatorian of KAY Club, manager of the football
team and girls basketball team, and was involved in FFA, Forensics, and
student council. He is undecided on a major.
From Belle Plaine High School:
Tim Wilson, son of Edward and Timma Wilson,
is the recipient of a Theatre Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, he participated
in Belle Plaine High School Singers, Scholar’s Bowl, track, football
(manager), FCCLA, FCA, student council, and site council. He plans to
major in forensic science.
Jamie Siever, son of Jimmy and Lisa Siever, is the recipient of a ACT
Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, he was involved in basketball, choir, and
the National Honors Society. He plans to major in pre-medicine.
Sarah Johnson, daughter of Robert and Lorraine Johnson, is the recipient
of a Social Science Department Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, she was
involved in FCCLA and FLC. She plans to major in Social Science.
From Wellington High School:
Katilyn Taylor, daughter of Marty and Kim
Whitson, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Wellington,
she was involved in dance, school plays and musicals. She plans to major
in psychology.
Lindsey Thomas, daughter of Danny and Cami Schmidt, is the recipient
of a Vocal Music Scholarship. At Wellington, she participated in choir,
Madrigals, tennis, SADD, basketball, dance, Key Club, Debate, and softball.
She plans to major in psychology.
From Wichita North High School:
Dawn Holt, daughter of David and Samala
Holt, is the recipient of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Wichita North,
she participated in softball. She plans to major in accounting.
From Wichita South High School:
Jessica Hayden, daughter of Chestine
Hayden, is the recipient of a Drama Scholarship. At Wichita South, she
was involved in running crews, plays and shows. She plans to major in
social work.
From Maize High School:
Devon Tracy, daughter of Jams Tracy and Sandi
Parker, is the recipient of a Danceline Scholarship. At Maize, she was
involved in dance, SAD, Forensics, French Club, and Pep Club. She plans
to major in graphic design.
From Campus High School:
Jennifer Denning, daughter of Daniel and Diana
Denning, is the recipient of a Social Science Scholarship. At Campus,
she was involved in the Art Club and the National Honors Society. She
plans to major in early childhood education.
From Goddard High School:
Zachary Valek, son of Paul and Rose Ann Valek,
is the recipient of a ACT Scholarship. At Goddard, he participated in
cross country, choir, tennis, Science Club, Programming Club, and the
Multi-Cultural Club. He plans to major in computer programming.
Cameron Nuss, son of Thomas and Nancy Nuss, is the recipient of a Vocal
Music Scholarship. At Goddard, he was involved in Madrigals and concert
choir. He plans to major in audio engineering.
Spencer Martinez, son of J. Raul and Robin Martinez, is the recipient
of a Dean’s Scholarship. At Goddard, he was a member of the golf
team. He plans to major in automotive.
From Newton High School:
Daniel Gutierrez, son of Vince and Maria Gutierrez,
is the recipient of a Trainer Scholarship. At Newton, he was involved
in football, track and field, Art Club, and the Powerlifting Club. He
plans to major in nursing.
Leah Riley, daughter of Dena Riley, is the recipient of a Danceline scholarship.
At Newton, she was involved in cross country, dance, and soccer. She
plans to major in nursing.
Joshua Scheuermann, son of Randy and Vicki Scheuermann, is the recipient
of a Theatre Scholarship. At Newton, he was involved in baseball, swimming
and diving, German Club, Drama Club, and was the stage manager and school
mascot. He plans to major in criminal justice.
From Mulvane High School:
Tyler Gilbert, son of Carla Gilbert, is the
recipient of a Athletic Hospitality Scholarship. At Mulvane, he ran cross
country and was a member of the wrestling team. He plans to major in
graphic design.
Jacob Griffith, son of Eddie and Sharlyn Griffith, is the recipient of
a Eagle Scout Scholarship. At Mulvane, he was involved in wrestling and
Boy Scouts of America. He plans to major in business administration.
Bethany Thrash, daughter of Dennis and Tammy Thrash, is the recipient
of a Instrumental Music Scholarship. At Mulvane, she was involved in
KAY, IMPACT, thespians, jazz band, and FCCLA. She plans to major in elementary
education.
From Derby High School:
Krista Whittemore, daughter of Dean and Mary

was involved in choir and the Drama Club. She is undecided on a major.
Brandon Hansard, son of Shelby Hansard and Tammy Booth, is the recipient
