Cowley Jumpstart Program a success

Thirty-one students from 18 high schools in Kansas and Oklahoma participated
in the first-ever Jumpstart Program at Cowley College.
The program was designed for recently graduated high school seniors to
earn college credit during the month of June. Many of the students in
the program attended an intensive summer school schedule while living
in the dorms and participating in social activities as well.
They earned 10 hours of college credit through the program by taking
four different courses. The Jumpstart students completed a total of 558
community service hours during the program as well. They volunteered
every Friday at area nursing homes, Big Brothers and Sisters, USD 470,
the Eagles Nest, and the Humane Society during the month of June. The
students culminated the program by attending a recognition banquet on
Thursday.
The Jumpstart students will be attending various colleges this fall including
Cowley College, Kansas State University, Southwestern College, Wichita
State University and the University of Kansas. For more information about
the Jumpstart Program, contact Sue Saia at 620-441-5274.
