Students take part in Medical Careers Day
Getting an opportunity to learn about medical programs and degrees
offered by Cowley College, a large group of students took part in the
school’s
Medical Careers Day held Tuesday at the Allied Health Center in Winfield.
“It was great to see this many students interested in the allied health
and public safety professions,” said Chris Cannon, Allied Health Department
Chair/director of EMS Education. “These students saw both the educational
opportunities available at Cowley and the future careers that our local workforce
has to offer.”
The day consisted of a tour of the Allied Health Center, an overview
of the Allied Health programs, and medical careers presentations provided
by Butler County EMS, Winfield Area EMS, Winfield Fire
Department, Arkansas City Fire Department and EMS, South Central Kansas
Regional Medical Center, William Newton Memorial Hospital, and the Pratt
Nursing program.
There was also Career Fair booths set up displaying information about
specific programs.
“The support we received for this event from our local organizations
was outstanding,” Cannon said. “It was wonderful to have every
local hospital, EMS service and fire department represented at the event.”
Students taking part in the Medical Careers Day were treated to lunch
at the facility.
