Cowley hosts another successful Medical Careers Day
With Cowley College’s Medical Careers Day continuing to double
in size each of the first three years of the event, 66 students took
part in the day’s activities held Wednesday on the college’s
main campus in Arkansas City.
Lory West, associate director of admissions and one of the organizers
of the event, was thrilled with the turnout.
“It is really exciting to see how much the event has grown,” West
said. “The event was marketed and promoted well, and Stefani Jones and
Chris Cannon do a great job of getting everyone lined up to help with the event.”
Chris Cannon, Allied Health Department Chair/director of EMS Education,
discussed the programs and degrees offered at Cowley College. While,
Natural Science Department Chair, Michelle Schoon, shared information
about the college’s pre-professional programs.
There were Career Fair booths set up displaying information about specific
programs for the students to view, as well as transfer information regarding
four-year institutions.
Participants had an opportunity to visit with representatives from South
Central Regional Medical Center, William Newton Memorial Hospital, Ark
City Fire-EMS Department, Ark City Emergency Medical Services, Winfield
Emergency Medical Services, Butler county Emergency Medical Services,
Life-Team, Hospice of Kansas, Pratt/Cowley LPN-RN, Andrea Winters CRNA
Anesthesia Consulting Services, and Heather Allen (transfer information).
Students from the 2010, 12-month Cowley MICT program, were also on hand
to answer any questions and assist with the day’s events.
