Automotive program receives new alignment machine
With the Steering and Suspension class scheduled to begin April 15, Cowley College’s automotive program is excited to begin learning the fundamentals of their brand new “Hunter Hawk Eye Elite” alignment machine.
Equipped with pronto digital imaging technology, and simple operations, this machine allows shops to be more efficient, resulting in lower costs. Digital cameras measure the wheels position and orientation by using reflective targets which assures pinpoint accuracy.
“This new piece of equipment will allow our students to be trained with the most advanced alignment technology known today,” automotive Instructor Jim Ailey said.
Here are a few facts about the importance of wheel alignment according to “Hunter Engineering Company”.
- Driving a vehicle for 12,000 miles with a misalignment of only 0.34 degrees out of specification would be equivalent to dragging the tires sideways for 68 miles.
- Easy to notice symptoms of a misaligned vehicle are; excessive or uneven tire wear, vehicle drift or pull, steering feels loose or wanders, or an out of level steering wheel.
- As a general rule, you should have your wheel alignment checked every 10,000 miles or at least once a year, however you should always follow your vehicles manufacturer’s recommendation in your owner’s manual.
