Lady Tigers sign point guard from Olathe North

Continuing to add depth to its squad, the Cowley County Community College women’s basketball team recently signed Olathe North’s Courtney Grant to a letter of intent.

Grant, a 5-6 point guard, played three years at Fort Scott High School before transferring to Olathe North for her senior season. She averaged 10.3 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals per game throughout her high school career.

“Courtney is a solid point guard with a good shooting touch,” Cowley head coach Stephanie Smith said. “She runs the offense very effectively and can slash to the basket well.”

An area of Grant’s game that may get overlooked in the statistics is her solid defensive play. Despite finishing last season with a record of 23-9, defense is one area that the Lady Tigers would like to improve on as they allowed 63.9 points per game last season.

“We are looking forward to Courtney coming in and bringing a strong defensive presence to next year’s team,” Smith said.

Grant was named to the Fort Scott All-Tournament team as a junior, and was a second-team All-Sunflower League selection as a senior at Olathe North.
