Playing another tough early season contest, the No.
9 ranked Cowley College baseball team suffered a 9-1 loss at 14th-ranked
Seminole State College Wednesday in Seminole, Okla.
“Our early season schedule is very tough, but
I don’t ever expect us to get blown out in a game,” Cowley
head coach Dave Burroughs said.
Sophomore Kyle Dotson (0-1) started on the mound for
the Tigers and allowed five hits and four runs in two innings pitched.
Justin Otto relieved Dotson on the mound and allowed two hits and two
runs in two innings of work as Seminole led 6-1 after four innings of
play.
Seminole starting pitcher Renaud
Catelier (1-0), a 6-2 left hander, kept the Tigers’ hitters off
balance by allowing only five hits and one run in seven innings.
Cowley freshman Lance Hoge was a bright spot in the
defeat as he retired all six batters he faced. Freshman Matt Peck pitched
the final two innings and allowed three runs while hitting four batters.
“I’m not concerned with out pitching, it’s
only one game,” Burroughs said. “It wasn’t pretty,
but there is a lot of time for improvement.”
Cowley’s lone run came on a home run by designated
hitter Ryan McMillan with one out in the second inning. The loss drops
the Tigers’ record to 1-1 on the season.
Seminole got home runs from Sawyer Carroll and Kyle
Davidson. The Trojans are now 2-2 on the season.
Cowley will be back in action Monday when they play
at Butler at 2 p.m.
