No. 9-ranked Tigers fall to Hutchinson 5-2

Managing only four hits in its game at Hutchinson Wednesday, the No. 9-ranked Cowley College baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss to the Blue Dragons.

Five Hutchinson pitchers combined on the four-hitter as the Tigers were unable to get things going offensively.

Cowley took an early lead as they scored an unearned run in the first inning. However, Hutchinson answered with two runs in the second inning off Cowley starter Kyle Dotson (0-2), and then scored one more in the third to lead 3-1.

The teams traded runs in the fourth inning to make the score 4-2, before Hutchinson added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a run scoring single by Todd Schonhoff.

Cowley managed only four base runners in the final five innings. Kori Jensen who pitched two scoreless innings of relief, picked up the win for the Blue Dragons.

Brett Becker went 1-for-3 with a run batted in, while Brad Miller went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the defeat.

The loss drops Cowley’s record to 2-2 on the season, while Hutchinson improves to 7-0. The Tigers will now prepare to play three games this weekend at Eastern (Okla.) State. They will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon, and the series will wrap up with a noon contest on Sunday.
