Getting strong pitching from Kyle Dotson and Matt Peck,
the Cowley College baseball team shutout Rose State College 8-0 Thursday
at City Ball Park.
Dotson and Peck had identical numbers as they each
allowed two hits in four innings, while striking out five and walking
none.
“I thought they did a good job working ahead
of the hitters and had a well pitched game,” Cowley assistant coach
Darren Burroughs said.
Dotson (1-2) started on the mound for the Tigers and
picked up his first win of the season. Kyle Thornton pitched a scoreless
ninth inning to preserve the shutout.
The Tigers benefited from four Rose State errors as
they scored all of their runs after the fourth inning of play. Cowley
scored one run in the fifth, one in the sixth, two in the seventh and
four in the eighth.
Michael Dabbs continued his solid
early season start by delivering a three-run double in the Tigers’ four-run
eighth. Mitch McCuistion and Nick Troilo also played well as they each
had two hits and an RBI.
The win was the Tigers’ second
in a row as Cowley improves to 5-4 on the season. The Tigers will return
to action Saturday when they host Maple Woods in a doubleheader beginning
at 2 p.m.
