Led by two home runs by sophomore shortstop Brad Miller,
the No. 9-ranked Cowley College baseball team pounded out eight extra
base hits in a 12-3 win over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Friday at
City Ball Park.
Cowley fell behind 3-0 after two innings of play,
but rallied to take the lead by scoring a run in the third, and scored
six more in the fourth as they sent 10 men to the plate. The Tigers put
the game away in the fifth as they scored four more times, and Miller
capped the scoring with his second home run of the game in the sixth.
Cowley freshman Matt Peck started on the mound and
allowed three runs on five hits as he picked up his first win of the
season. Kyle Head followed with three hitless innings of relief, while
Bryce Bartelson struck out the side in the ninth.
Besides the big game from Miller, Nick Troilo went
2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in, while hitting in the
leadoff spot. Freshman Jason Sowers added two doubles, and Ryan Engel
went 2-for-3 with two run scoring singles.
Shawn Epps took the loss for NOC
as he was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
The loss drops the Jets’ record to 5-10 on the season.
Cowley improves to 9-5 overall and 6-0 at home. The
Tigers will open defense of their Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division
title Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Fort Scott beginning
at 2 p.m.
