Three Cowley College baseball recruits helped lead
Enid, Okla., to the American Legion Baseball World Series title with
a 7-6 win over Twin Cities, Wash., Tuesday in Rapid City, S.D.
Tiger recruits Tyler Fleming of
Enid High School, Matt Peck from Cimarron High School, and Taloga High
School’s Zac Berg
each played major roles in Enid’s World Series title run, and each
was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Enid went 5-1 in the double elimination tournament,
and finished the season with a record of 62-11.
“Winning a World Series is a pretty special accomplishment,” Cowley
head baseball coach Dave Burroughs said. “I hope they can carry
the momentum of winning the World Series into our season. All three of
those guys have a chance to be very good players at this level.”
Berg was named the Most Valuable
Player of the tournament. He also earned the Rawlings Big Stick Award
for finishing with the most total bases in national competition, and
the Dr. Irvin L. “Click” Cowger
RBI Award for driving in the most runs during national competition.
