Former
Cowley College All-American Travis Hafner is putting up an MVP type season
with the Cleveland Indians as he ranks in the top-five of seven different
offensive categories.
Hafner, who is in his fifth major league season,
leads the American League in walks (63) , on base percentage (.450),
and slugging percentage (.625). He also ranks second in runs scored (60)
and RBI’s (62), while ranking third in total bases (160).
Hafner belted two homeruns in a
10-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday Night and is now tied
for fourth in home runs with 21. He’s in the top-20 in batting average (.313), and
is in the top-30 in hits (80), and doubles (15).
He is just three home runs shy from 100 career home
runs. Currently, Hafner is fourth in All-Star voting among American League
first baseman.
Hafner played at Cowley during the 1996 and 1997 seasons
and led the tigers to the 1997 NJCAA Word Series title.
