Former Tiger named MVP
of All-Star game
Arkansas City native Deik Scram, who had two stellar seasons playing
baseball at Cowley College, was named the Most Valuable Player of the
Midwest league All-Star game Tuesday in Geneva, Ill.
Scram, an outfielder in the Detroit Tigers organization, led the Eastern
Division to a 8-2 victory as he had a hit, a walk, and scored two runs. Scram
plays for the West Michigan Whitecaps, a Class A team in Grand Rapids.
Scram leads the Whitecaps in batting average (.347), on-base percentage
(.427), and triples (six). He was selected by Detroit in the 18th round
of the June 2006 draft.
As a sophomore at Cowley, Scram hit .458 with nine home runs, 51 RBIs,
six triples and 34 stolen bases. He was named the Jayhawk East Most
Valuable Player and was also named a second-team NJCAA All-American.
At Arkansas City, Scram was named the Kansas High School Gatorade Player
of the Year in 2004. He was also a member of the 2002 Class 5A state
championship team.
