Lady Tiger tennis opens season with 7-2 win over
Arkansas Tech

Getting strong performances from several different players, the Cowley College women’s tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 win over NCAA Division II Arkansas Tech Tuesday in Fayetteville, Ark.

“We were quite a bit better than Arkansas Tech, we were fortunate that a lot of people got an opportunity to play,” Cowley head coach Brad Louderback said.
The Lady Tigers, ranked fifth in the NJCAA Division I tennis poll, won all three doubles matches and four of six singles matches.

Karolina Porizkova, a freshman that joined the team after Christmas break, had a dominating performance at No. 1 singles as she beat Arkansas Tech’s Tahnee Crous 6-1, 6-1.

“Karolina played a really good match,” Louderback said.

At No. 2 singles, Cowley’s Monica Medina rallied from a 0-3 deficit in the first set to win 6-3. She then capped the match with a 6-2 win of the second set.

Sophomore Katie McKee also impressed as she beat Arkansas Tech’s Renne Malcuit 6-0 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.

“I was really happy with both Monica and Katie’s efforts,” Louderback said.
The Lady Tigers, who are now 1-0 on the season, will play fourth-ranked Tyler Junior College Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Santa Fe Racquet Club in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“Playing Tyler will show us a lot about where we stand,” Louderback said.
