Lady Tiger tennis improves to
4-0

Pictured is freshman Monica Medina, who picked up wins at No. 1 singles
and No. 3 doubles.
Taking advantage of some gorgeous weather, the No. 5-ranked Cowley
College women’s tennis team defeated Southwestern College 9-0
Monday afternoon at the J.C. Louderback Tennis Center.
The Lady Tigers dropped just one set in improving to 4-0 on the season.
“Southwestern has some good players, we were just too strong for them,” Cowley
head coach Brad Louderback said.
Cowley’s top four singles players combined to lose just four
games in eight sets. At No. 5 singles, freshman Maricel Quintero rallied
from a loss of the second set in her match against Southwestern’s
Kourtney McLeland, to win the third set 11-9 in a super tiebreak.
Ashley Arnold picked up a 7-6, 6-2 win over Southwestern’s Lindsay
Morgan at No. 6 singles and Cowley won all three doubles matches by
a combined score of 24-6.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday when they play a pair
of matches in Springfield, Mo. Cowley will play Northwest Missouri
State University at 1 p.m., and then face Drury College at 4 p.m. Drury
is perennially one of the top tennis programs in NCAA Division II,
while former Lady Tiger Gina Pendrak plays for Northwest Missouri State.
“I think the matches will be a good test for us,” Louderback said. “The
girls are working hard and getting better.”
