Cowley receives commitment
from Oklahoma State Placer
Hoping
to build off of its third place finish
at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, the
Cowley College men’s
track and field team strengthened its relay teams with the recent commitment
of Dwight Jenkins of Lawton, Okla.
As a senior at Eisenhower High School, Jenkins placed fourth in the
Class 6A State Track and Field Meet in the 800-meter run with a time
of 1:56.00.
Cowley assistant coach Ryan Turner expects Jenkins to run on the Tigers’ 4x400,
4x800, and distance medley relay teams.
“Dwight has amazing talent and showed he can compete with anybody,” Turner
said. “Hopefully, he will come in here and contribute right away.”
Jenkins was impressed by the success of the Tiger track program and
felt they could help him continue to improve as a runner.
“It seems like they can compete with (NCAA) Division I schools so I look
forward to coming here and work on my skills and get a good education as I
try to get to a Division I school,” Jenkins said.
Along with Jenkins’ commitment, Turner has been thrilled with the
recruits the Tigers have signed for next season.
“Instead of rebuilding, we just reload,” Turner said. “This
is probably the best recruiting class we have had since I have been here. I
am extremely excited about our outlook for next year.”
