Scoring
a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab a 4-3 lead at
Rose State on Wednesday, the Cowley College baseball team was feeling
good about themselves. However, Rose State scored four times in the
bottom half of the inning en route to a 7-4 win.
Cowley got a solo home run from Tyson Parks in the top of the second
inning to lead 1-0. However, after the first two batters reached base
in the bottom of the second, an error by Tiger shortstop Heath Wall allowed
two runs to score.
An error by Rose State in the top of the fourth inning set up Brice Cole’s
sacrifice fly that scored Bryson Ramsey with the tying run. However,
Wall’s second error of the game led to an unearned run in the bottom
half of the inning.
Connor Farris relieved Curt Simpson on the mound with one out in the
fourth inning and proceeded to allow just one hit over the next 3 2/3
innings.
Ramsey led off the top of the eighth with a walk and came around to score
on a two-out, two-run homer by John Chaisson, which gave the Tigers a
4-3 lead.
However, the Mavericks got to Farris (0-1) for four runs in the eighth.
Two of the runs were unearned due to two errors by Tiger third baseman
Tom O’Gorman.
Alex Schell came in to record the final two outs in the eighth inning.
But, Cowley was retired in order in the ninth as they suffered their
third straight loss.
Parks finished 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in the defeat.
The Tigers are now 2-7 on the season. Cowley will host Hutchinson in
a nine-inning game today at 2 p.m. at City Ball Park.
