Starring
as a designated hitter/pitcher for the Cowley College baseball team,
sophomore Chase Roten was named to the 2008 NJCAA Baseball All-Region
Team.
Roten transferred to Cowley from Connors State (Okla.) and had a big
year in his lone season with the team. On the mound, he went 6-1 with
a 2.60 ERA. He tied for the team lead in wins, while striking out 31
batters and walking only nine in 40 1/3 innings pitched.
At the plate, Roten led the Tigers with a .435 batting average. He also
hit 10 doubles, stole nine bases, and drove in 17 runs.
Cowley finished its season with a record of 37-19, while capturing its
second straight Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division title.
