Cowley men roll to 114-35 home win

Playing its second straight junior varsity opponent, the Cowley College men’s basketball team had six players score in double figures as they cruised to a 114-35 win over the Mid America JV Saturday night at W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Cowley raced out to a 15-2 lead just three minutes into the contest and led 62-15 after the first half of play. Things did not get any better for the Evangels in the second half as the Tigers led by as many as 82 points in picking up its second win of the season.

“I was glad to see we were able to keep our intensity the whole time,” Cowley head coach Steve Eck said.

Freshman Jack Crowder III led Cowley in scoring for the second straight game as he finished with a game-high 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Sophomore Montrell McDonald had an all around solid night as he finished with 18 points, four blocks, four assists and three rebounds.

Sophomore forward Preston Brown posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeremy McCarty chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds. Other Tigers to score in double figures were Eric McKinney (10 points) and Marcus Butler. McKinney and Butler combined to go 10-of-10 from the floor.

As a team, Cowley shot 67 percent from the floor, while holding Mid America JV to 18 percent shooting. The Tigers are now 2-0 on the season.

Cowley will return to the court Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they play at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.

“The real test comes Tuesday at Tonkawa,” Eck said. “They are very strong and physical so we will have to fight through some adversity.”

The game can be heard on KACY 102.5 FM.
