Hot-shooting Tigers beat Sterling JV 105-43

Shooting 62.8 percent from the floor, the No. 25-ranked Cowley College men’s basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a convincing 105-43 win over the Sterling College JV Monday night at W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Sophomore Montrell McDonald led the Tigers by making 9-of-10 shots from the floor. McDonald finished with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocked shots in 21 minutes of action.

Freshman Jack Crowder finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Rhymes and Preston Brown added 12 points apiece. Jeremy McCarty came off the bench to chip in 10 points.

The win improves Cowley’s record to 7-1 on the season.

“We have got to keep our intensity for the whole game, and for the most part we did,” Cowley head coach Steve Eck said.

Jerred McMillan led the Warriors with 14 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the floor. Cowley held the Sterling JV to 34.8 percent shooting for the game, and forced the Warriors into 24 turnovers.

Eck is giving the players the next few days off before returning to practice on Friday. Cowley will then prepare for its game next Tuesday at Eastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m.

“We are going to get back from Thanksgiving break and get after it in practice,” Eck said. “We’ll be ready next week for Eastern (Oklahoma).”
