Picking up where she left off as a freshman,
Cowley College’s Kasia Siwosz picked up singles and doubles wins
in the Lady Tigers’ season opening 7-2 loss at NCAA Division
II Washburn University on Saturday.
Siwosz, the defending national champion at No. 1 singles, defeated Diana
Goldsmith 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play and then teamed with Karolina
Porizkova to win 9-7 at No. 1 doubles.
“Kasia is a great player and is setting herself up for a really good
spring,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said.
Porizkova gave a solid effort at No. 2 singles before losing to Washburn’s
Amber Raindl 6-7, 5-7.
Monica Medina is the Lady Tigers only other returning player from a year
ago, while Thea Lonewolf, Cassie Powell and Elizabeth Galindo each played
their first collegiate match.
The Lady Tigers’ home match against Kansas Wesleyan University
on Monday was postponed. Cowley will return to action March 15 when they
play at Maryville, Mo. The Lady Tigers will play Northwest Missouri State
at noon and will then face off against Missouri-Saint Louis at 4 p.m.
