Lady Tiger tennis team comes up just short against Seward County

SiwoszReturning to action for the first time in nearly a month, the Cowley College women’s tennis team suffered a hard fought 6-3 loss to Seward County Saturday at the J.C. Louderback Tennis Courts in Ark City.

The Lady Tigers got strong play from returning sophomores Kasia Siwosz (pictured) and Karolina Porizkova. However, the bottom half of the line up had a tough time coming up with wins.

Siwosz and Porizkova, the defending national champions at No. 1 doubles, coasted to an 8-1 win over Seward County’s Fabiola Wisnesky and Juliana Boas. The duo also dominated the top two singles flights as Siwosz defeated Wisnesky 6-0, 6-0 and Porizkova knocked off Sanela Dejacovic 6-0, 6-1.

Cowley had a pair of close matches go against them in doubles play as Monica Medina and Thea Lonewolf lost its No. 2 doubles match by a score of 8-5, while Cowley’s Elizabeth Galindo and Cassie Powell suffered an 8-6 defeat in No. 3 doubles play.
“I am really excited about our doubles teams,” Cowley head coach Josh Cobble said. “I did not know what to expect, but we played really well in doubles. I think that will be a strength for us.”

Cowley is now 0-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers will now prepare for the Seminole Trojan Festival, which will be held Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City, Okla. On Friday, Cowley will play Collin County at noon and North Central Texas College at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers will battle Arkansas Fort Smith at 9 a.m. and Seminole State at 1 p.m.

“It will be a good challenge for us,” Cobble said.
